How Do You Prioritize Reading With The Rest Of Your Life?

Do you let reading books take last place behind work, social events, housework, eating, etc? Or do you fit it into your schedule because you believe reading is as important as other things in your life?

I love to read and make time for it every day. When I die, I’m sure one of my last thoughts will be “Oh crap! I never got to finish………”

I usually end my day with a good book, rotating between business-oriented, non-fiction, spiritual, and fiction-based books.

It is all about preference. If you waould rather sit on your behing and read than actually do something with your life, than go for it. I save reading for when I have nothing else to do.

I don’t have enough time to read but I listen to audio books in my car and when i’m cleaning my house works out great!

  • Mia says:

I love reading, it’s really important for me to find time to, I usually read by night, before sleeping, that helps me to relax, but during holidays, I read any time by day and night.
So reading may take any place among my schedule, when I have free time, I read !!

Reading is as important as other things in my life — in fact, I believe it’s essential to my ability to do well the other things in life that I want and have to do!
I keep up with my other responsibilities, many of which I take joy & pride in — my husband & two daughters, teaching, cooking, social events — and even those I dread, such as laundry, cleaning, paying bills. lol. But if I don’t take time to read, I get restless and moody, and I’ll suddenly realize “OMG the last book I read was a month ago!” Time to catch up on my reading.
I don’t know, I guess it’s a combination of factors — intellectual stimulation … love of learning … escapism through interesting characters & plot … and reading is a form of solitude; in this busy world, who get’s enough of that? :-) My grandmother said I could read when I was four years old — which means I’ve been reading for 30 years — definitely the longest I’ve maintained any good habit!

I love reading, but even reading can be a distraction. If you want to read more, set a goal of 15 minutes a day to read something–then see where it leads. Often it’s a good way to relax before bed.

Well, sometimes i just have NO time for books especially when preparing for exams. When i have holidays, i read 24/7. Im working now and manage to read 1 book a day. books also keep you busy when u are in public transport and get into a congestion. When im in school, i read inbetween the lessons, or when i have ‘windows’ ebtween the lessons. But if im tired or have aching eyes, i dont ‘force’ myself to read, although i think it is a very important thing, especially if you are studying in ib [just damages your native language so badly..]

To prioritize reading with the rest of your life stick to topics that interest you. For example, I only read Christian Fiction and books of that nature, they pertain to my everyday life.

Reading is as important as breathing,it can be done consciously as well as consciuosly. So when the written page comes before one’s eyes, one can asborb it.Reading can be possible along with a job if we can cut out on watching t.v. etc which does take up enough time.”Reading maketh a full man;conferance a ready man; and writing an exact man.” When Bacon wrote this the times were as exacting as this, but it still holds true now,and pays dividends over a lifetime.

I try to read at least 2 chapters per week until the book is finished. If its a REALLY good book I’ll sit and read a bunch of chapters one day out of the weekend. : )

At home, I will usually read when my daughter is taking a nap and at night during commercials. I also bring a book with me most everywhere, so I can read during long car trips (when my hubby is driving) or while waiting for doctor’s appointments, etc.

I’m s’pose to be reading this book for my English IV class this summer(Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein) and it’s taking me forever to get through because it’s the summer. I’m a big fan of fiction, (ex. I read harry Potter 4 in 5 days) but because their are more exciting things to do during the summer vacation, it doesn’t seem that important to the average teen even though it really is. So to answer ur question: Unfortunately Yes.

Reading is one of the most important means of informing, educating and relaxing myself that I can think of. High on the list for certain.

There is no alternative to reading. Everyday someone should spare minimum 1-2 hours for personal reading apart from his daily busy schedule. Reading is the best way to give relieve to your mind.

  • Confusion With a K says:

Read right before bed or in a break time at work. Reading before bed can put you in sleep mode. Don’t feel guilty if you dont have time to read in a few days beacuse of work, social life, work, etc.

I commute to work on the subway and the bus so I have time to read every day. I try to fit it into my schedule at other times but it isn’t the priority over other activities.

  • Esthon says:

I always want to learn new things and part of learning is reading, so I make sure that I read at least one book every month. I make sure that I read at least an hour or two a day or whenever I have free time. Reading constantly improves my knowledge and vocabulary and if the book has become a movie, I read it first before watching it. Always, the book is better than the movie.

  • mogu mogu paku paku says:

Hum, it depends on the book!!
If it’s a textbook, then I’d have to schedule it in or else I’d keep putting it off!
On the other hand, a good novel draws me in and starts to distract me from my work :p

  • leavao1 says:

Reading shouldn’t take last place in anything. I fit it into my schedule because it is to me as important as other things in my life. I usually carry whatever I am reading with me because I never know when I’ll have extra time to read.

  • trt_quen says:

I don’t read as much as I would like to. For one I don’t have the time anymore. 13 hours of my day are spent with work and being a single mother to a young child causes my priorities to change. First work, then my daughter, then eat and finally sleep. Sleep has become my new hobby. I tried to get back into reading but I have a problem with stopping. I got three large books from the library and in 5 days read all three. I got no sleep during that time.

I do it at night in the bathtub.
I also read while my husband plays his baseball games.

  • kimberli says:

I need to do better, but normally,I try to read a little bit in the evening,no matter what I did or didn’t do during the day.I’ve let my reading go,lately, because I’ve been on here! I really have got to limit myself on the computer.

  • tarap_mc says:

I fit reading into my schedule as I am constantly doing research on different societal issues. I also collect books and every now and then stop to read a classic. My favorite author is James Joyce.

  • Sarah J says:

i fit it in after my children go to bed, i don’t feel like doing housework and i need to relax, i think it is important for you to relax and unwind and if reading does this for you then i say read!

  • scra99y says:

Usually I read when I am at the gym. I can stand on the eliptical trainer and run on that for half an hour or even an hour it makes the time go by faster and I get a lot of reading done.
