What Are The Best Ways To Concentrate While Reading?
Hi.
I have a found a new love (possibly out of nothing better to do) for reading endless wikipedia articles. However by the end of the article I often question myself and realise how i’ve taken little/nothing in. I get the idea of the article and vaguely remember the main aspects but find it hard to remember certain facts and figures.
Are there any particular methods people use when reading through documents?
Does remembering what you read just come out of practice?
Is it worth trying to write what i’ve just read down on paper?
i write down in bullit points then pull out branches and jot down anything i remember. Its definitely worth writing what you remember, that way you’ll have read it twice in a way. But i tend to listen to classical music because im more focused on my work.
I found that if I have music or the TV on in the background it helps me focus. Drowns out anything else that may distract me.
I have many problems focusing and retaining what I’ve read.
if it is something difficult it’s best to take short notes.. you can refer to again.. like reading a text for work.. and it’s complicated and tedious.. if you have a book you read for leisure.. I am sure we don’t have those problems.. then we absorb the text and we don’t have to write it down.. because what we enjoy we understand and memorize.. Before my exam to become a health care worker.. I had to read about 1000 a thousand pages about all kinds of medical information.. I had to go through it several times…some things made instant sense and I only had to read them once.. others, the more complicated ones. I made notes.. then I could read the notes instead of the whole article again or the whole chapter.. I would repeat the weak points.. that is if it is important for a job or for school.. for fun I believe nobody needs to read again.. we grasp it the first time.. because reading a book for relaxation doesn’t necessitate to think a lot…just to enjoy the story..
